Volunteering at Postlip​

If you can't make an open day, but are interested in the home for sale, a good way to get to experience Postlip first hand and get to know us is to volunteer for one of our working weekends. This means you get to enjoy Postlip in its stunning setting, meet some new people and maybe even learn something. We're sorry that we're not able to accept volunteers for longer than a weekend. Please don't ask us if you can volunteer here for weeks or months because we don't have the facilities for extended stays and hate refusing.

Working weekends happen monthly on the weekend that’s got the second Sunday in it.  We all try to be here to spend the weekend taking care of important jobs in the kitchen garden and grounds, and on the house and Tithe Barn. People work around Postlip at other times but the main jobs happen on the working weekends and on the ‘Fun Day’, the third Saturday of every month.  

What we offer

​If you visit on a working weekend (usually Friday evening to Sunday teatime) then we’ll find you a bed and lots of good food. Visitors are asked to bring bedding or sleeping bags and towels.

We’re known for feeding visitors well, whether veggie or omnivorous. You’ll spend the days working with us on whatever jobs the season demands, from planting and weeding to cropping, tree management and drystone walling. On the Saturday evening we have a potluck supper in the Great Hall. If you come by train or coach to Cheltenham we can often collect and deliver. We can usually welcome your children too, but do let us know in advance.  

These weekends are great fun and have made us many good friends over the years – some of them even came back and became members.

Joining WWOOF

If you'd like to come and help us then we ask you to join WWOOF, World-Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms (formerly Working Weekends On Organic farms). This international organisation puts volunteers in touch with organic growers. We’ve been members since the 1970s and much of the kitchen garden was reclaimed from wilderness by WWOOFers and community members.

Volunteering here as a WWOOFer gives you and us a bit of structure and some useful protections, so we now only accept WWOOF volunteers. Membership also gives you a chance to visit lots of other WWOOFing communities. When you join, you'll get a membership number and password and logging in with those gives you access to our page (amongst many others). The page has a button "Contact host" and if you click on that you can book a weekend with us. 

Fun Open Days!
We had some brilliant Open Days last year. So good in fact, we've decided to follow suit in 2024!

Why not join us for one of our fun size open days from January to April?

Our open-house-and-garden sessions will give you the chance to look around, meet us Postlippians and get a feel for the place and our community.

Expect lots of tea, coffee, biscuits, and the chance to chat with folk in the hall or veggie garden. You'll have the freedom to take yourself off around the grounds, walk up Cleeve hill and discover Winchcombe at lunch. We're open to any questions and love sharing what we're doing so drop in and do as much or as little as you like.

If you are interested in cohousing or Postlip Community this will be a great opportunity to talk about topics such as sustainable living, living in an intentional community and tending an organic kitchen garden, animals and a Grade I listed building.
