Mesadorm with support from Mandel
Mesadorm bring their magic to Postlip Hall this autumn as part of their tour promoting new album Epicadus -- and magic it will be. Epicadus sees the band re-imagine songs from their acclaimed debut album Heterogaster and some new compositions using purely timbres from acoustic instruments.

Mesadorm is a collaborative project between Blythe Pepino, Aaron Zahl, Daisy Palmer (Paloma Faith, Goldfrapp, MIKA), Jo Silverston (The Unthanks, Red Clay Halo, Frank Turner, Spindle Ensemble) and David Johnston (ZunZun Egui, Phil King, Chairfight!).
The relationships in the project go back many years and have a distinctly Bristol centred heritage. After a few years testing the mainstream stage with a major record deal Pepino moved back to her roots as a left-field, art-rock and electronica song-writer. Here you will find her in happy harmony with Aaron Zahl who has recorded and produced the eagerly anticipated first album fleshing out the musical world with his electronic sound scapery. Having known each other since they were teenagers and weathered various phases of life and musical outfits, Zahl, Pepino, Palmer, Johnston and Silverston have a unique connection that plays out in this project with depth and assuredness. The writing sits somewhere between the domestic observation of Suzanne Vega and the powerful, elemental other-worldliness of Bjork.
“I'm absolutely addicted….Really affecting and beautiful.” Lauren Laverne, BBC 6 Music
"I love [it] a beautiful record…” Huw Stephens, BBC Radio 1
“Melodies that originate in the left field soothing, genuine, and perplexing a real jewel.” Clash Magazine

Mesadorm will be supported by MANDEL, a new creative partnership between award winning composer Emily Hall (Bedroom Community) and violinist, viola player and singer Misha Law. Drawn together by a common aesthetic, they meet weekly to practice mindful free improvisation mostly on violin and viola then work together to develop this material into pieces of music.

Saturday 30th November
Doors: 7:00pm “Truly remarkable! Magical…” “A force to be reckoned with!”
Frank Hennessey, BBC Radio Wales |
Postlip regulars, ALAW, are back for another night of high-quality folk music. ALAW is three leading musicians who bring a wealth of experience to a shared passion – the traditional music of Wales. Whether unearthing rare gems or reimagining a well loved melody they treat their music with a deftness and sensitivity that is thoroughly absorbing. Combined with powerful song writing and original tunes, this makes for a musical experience that will stay with the listener long after the concert has ended.
Oli, Jamie and Dylan have a long history of working together, sharing projects such as The Devil’s Violin, Szapora and The Ian McMillan Orchestra. Oli and Jamie are well known throughout the folk world as the frontline of Jamie Smith’s Mabon. From stirring song to driving jigs – they communicate their music with relaxed humour and a genuine affection that is truly infectious.
ALAW will be supported by Cairi Jacks. Cairi is an artist and folk singer, also from Wales, who explores themes of belonging, kinship and our relationship to land through a mixture of original compositions and traditional folk songs. Firmly rooted in the oral tradition, with fireside singing in her blood, and a craft honed through a cappela harmony singing, she now brings the many threads of her practice together in an intimate sharing that explores how singing can be powerful tool for connection.

Events at Postlip
We run events in the Great Hall and Tithe Barn to share Postlip and make connections with the local community, as well as to help pay for the maintenance of our historic buildings. Many people enjoy our concerts, comedy, story-telling, music and drama.
If you'd like to be on the mailing list or want to suggest an event then please email us or write to Postlip Society, Postlip Hall, Winchcombe, Cheltenham, GL54 5AQ. In the past we have hosted Cromwellian banquets, held a butterfly festival, exhibited tribal rugs, held a 2CV race, and filled the grounds with sculpture – Postlip is pretty versatile. We are always open to new ideas and opportunities which appeal to us and/or have the promise of raising money to help maintain and restore the house and Tithe Barn. The woods and grounds are regularly used, both recreationally and educationally, by local school parties and organisations such as the Scouts and Forest School.

For the last few years we have been programming events to take place by the fireside in the Great Hall during the colder months. A few recent events include: Ed Donovan, ALAW, The Devil's Violin Company performing their blend of live music and spoken word to bring to life their new show "Forbidden Door"; a very moving play titled State of Grace by Postlip's own Reckless Theatre Company, a fantastic performance by renowned Orkney folk duo The Wrigley Sisters; and the Garlic Theatre's delightful puppet show for children of all ages "There's a Monster in My Piano".
